I have read the book, and seen the foreign version of this movie. I thought it was really good and I would recommend you scope it out, even if you hate reading subtitles like I do. I hope this movie can measure up to what has come before, it has some really big shoes to fill.

This movie looks dark and hilarious! Whose family isn’t dysfunctional?

The Family Tree is scheduled to be released August 26, 2011.

This movie looks dark and hilarious! Whose family isn’t dysfunctional and who isn’t having an affair with the neighbor… I mean… umm… who hasn’t wished their mother would forget everything even them at some point. Appears to be a fun look at a family wallowing waist deep in their dysfunction. I am sold!

The movie’s official website says it “is a hilarious and touching, offbeat but timely and ultimately uplifting comedy which explores the frailties and complexities of the contemporary American family – and what it takes to survive in a suburban jungle fraught with loaded weapons, star-crossed lovers, teens run amok, religious intolerance, and even a voyeur or two in the mix.”

Although not out until December, I still had to put this up. I love Sherlock Holmes, and I love Robert Downey Jr. possibly a little more. As we dive deeper into the characters of Sherlock Holmes and Watson I can only hope “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows” is as good as the first movie or better!

If throughout the course of the summer you’ve been distracted by activities like BBQ’s, camping in the woods, and swimming at the pool and you’ve forgotten you should be watching out for The Silence, wondering what the deal with The Astronaut is, or obsessing over River Song’s identity, never fear. BBC released a recap of episodes 1 through 7 today to give viewers a look back in preparation for episode 8 of the current Doctor Who season: “Let’s Kill Hitler”, which is scheduled to air Saturday, August 27.

Between this recap and the trailer for the second half of season 6 I can hardly contain my excitement for the Doctor’s return!

After ordering six episodes for what was being coined the “Final Season” of Eureka (Season six) the SyFy channel canceled the show altogether citing that Season Five would be the final season for the show. The Fifth season, which is currently in production and set to air 2012, has been promised an additional show to help wrap things up.

What Syfy had to say:

“After painstaking consideration, we have had to make the difficult business decision to not order a season six of Eureka. But Eureka is not over yet. There is a new holiday episode this December and 12 stellar episodes set to debut next year, marking its fifth season and six memorable years on Syfy. The 2012 episodes are some of the best we’ve seen, and will bring this great series to a satisfying end. We are very grateful to Bruce Miller and Jaime Paglia, their team of incredible writers, and an amazing cast and crew who have consistently delivered a series we continue to be very proud of. We thank the fans for their support of this show and know they will enjoy its final season in 2012.“

Even with the advance notice and the promise of an additional show I cannot help but mourn the loss of this town and people we have come to love over the last five years.

This movie was wonderful in a way only a Disney movie can be. There’s the girl (Rapunzel) that wants more from her life so she breaks out on her own, with the help, of course, of a handsome “prince type.” Along the way she runs into the villain. In this case she happens to be a woman who stole Rapunzel at birth. In the end the girl overcomes it all to live Happily Ever After. Throw in some music and comedy and you find the same Disney formula you would find in any great Disney movie, complete with a boat scene and an almost-kiss very reminiscent of The Little Mermaid (go on and kiss the girl!).

The characters were enjoyable, possibly even lovable. Rapunzel was the dreamy eyed naïve girl you had no problems rooting for. Flynn Rider (our male lead) was a bit goofy, but ever the dashing and handsome “prince.” His goofiness only led you to love him more. There was a little bit of Aladdin in Flynn Rider: the thief who always wanted more from life. Lucky for him he hooks up with Rapunzel who ends up being a princess. Of course, no story is complete without the villain, and Mother Gothel is a wonderful villain. They did an excellent job of having her walk the line between mother to Rapunzel and evil witch just using Rapunzel, turning her just evil enough at just the right time that you want Rapunzel to win. They also did a great job with two animal characters, that although had no lines in the movie, did steal quite a few scenes.

The animation was what I would expect from Disney as well. At this point if they don’t have that part figured out we are all in trouble. The musical scores were also enjoyable but I’m not sure they could hold a candle to movies like Beauty and the Beast or Aladdin. The songs fit into the movie well but I wasn’t humming them later or looking for the sound track when it was over.

Over all I was very entertained for all 100 min, and although it was the Disney Princess formula to a “T” I forgot about reality and for 100 minutes I completely believed that true happiness, princes, and Happily Ever After do exist. Let’s face it, from Disney what more could I ask for?
